Devin
Twelve years ago, we adopted a little pup named Devin, named by Sharon, his foster mom, from one of the foster homes in Safe At Last. My wife saw the pup online along with his brothers and sister. as she was searching for another dog a year after our Min Pin, Scooby, passed away. The foster mom, Sharon, had doctored Devin back to health after having Parvo and what a wonderful job she did. We drove well over an hour to get there and when my wife first saw Devin, it was love at first sight. So small, so timid yet he walked up to my wife almost saying, “Will you take me home with you”. Although I was against getting another dog as the pain of losing Scooby was horrible, I agreed. This turned out to be the best decision ever. Devin grew to be the best dog and he became my best friend and buddy. He became the king of our home and family and everyone that met him loved him. Through thick and thin, Devin was always by our side. We had so much fun together over the 12 years. But sadly, time and his multiple health problems caught up with him and 14 days ago, we had to make the decision to let him gain his Angel wings. Hardest decision we have ever had to make. We are heartbroken and not sure we will ever get over losing him. He was an angel sent from above to us and we can thank Safe At Last and his foster mom Sharon for allowing us to adopt him. Our sweetie pie will be missed forever. Heartbroken forever, Jim and Jean Bombace

Aspen
Sweet Aspen - so much loved by her family.. Tragically, Aspen is at the Rainbow Bridge -- much missed by her family, but always in their hearts. Here is Aspen's family's tribute to her: From the moment I saw her picture, instinct told me that Aspen was the dog for our family. As soon as I met her, I knew that was the case. Sharon from Safe at Last described her as a “velcro dog” and that’s exactly what she was. She followed someone in our family everywhere we went and we brought her with us everywhere possible. Other than doting on her people, Aspen loved our daily walks in the forest where she would run free and play chase with other dogs we met along the way. She had every quality of a great dog! She was smart, healthy, loyal, playful, affectionate, loving and extremely silly… She brought true color to our lives every single day. Before Aspen, my wife had a real fear of Pit Bulls. Now after our experience with Aspen, it’s hard to imagine our family rescuing any other breed. Tragically Aspen was taken from us after being hit by a car at the age of 10 months. As I always told you, you are my friend ‘til the end. We will remember you always and love you forever our sweet little orange bully!

Jack Monaco
(Feb. 2006 - Aug. 9, 2019) Oh my beautiful, beautiful boy. You were perfect from the minute you walked into my life and gave me that slobbery kiss. For ~13 years, you filled my life with such love & joy. And, you were a wonderful companion to your sisters Maya and Birdie -- always going with the flow, always with a smile on your handsome face. Not a soul met you who didn't love you. How could they not love you -- you were beautiful, inside and out. I miss you so much, my Jack-O-Beanie, more than words can say. You will always be in my heart -- always missed, never forgotten. Much love, forever & always, your mom, Cindy

Kodiak
Kodiak came to us from Bamberg, SC. We knew he had cancer, but we took him. He was not expected to live longer than a couple of months. BUT... it is amazing what love can do... He was much loved by all of us. From his SC rescue family, Ruthie & company, to sweet Emily with us at Safe at Last, to then his long-term foster home with Karin and Bob... and "Aunt Cindy" saw him often for a little more loving. We all LOVED this boy, and he blossomed and shined so very brightly with the love he got. He came to all of us late in life, but that boy was SO, SO happy (&, I believe, grateful). He cheated death several times, but... not with the last bout of cancer. We said good-bye to our "big buddy boy" (as Dad Bob would call him) on April 6, 2017. In the comfort of his home, surrounded by love, our Kodiak went to the Rainbow Bridge. We are glad he is released from his pain, but, still, we miss him every day.

Birdie Monaco
(1997/1998?? - June 4, 2015) My sweet little Birdie-kins - you adopted me that summer of 2000, stole my heart, and for 15 years brought me tons of love and joy. I loved how you always looked annoyed, even when you were happy :) I will miss all your little antics -- like "helping" me do computer work, always being fearless with the dogs, & always being up for getting some extra special tidbits, like fresh cooked bacon, Brook's chicken & mom's home cooked beef stew.... I will miss how you'd run to me when I called you. I will miss our hikes and the feel of your little warm body on my shoulder as I carried you. I will miss your soft purring, our noses touching, and the quiet pitter-patter of your little feet. There is a spot in my heart that will always be for you. With all my love, forever ~ your mom, Cindy
