Safe at Last will be experiencing some significant changes. From our inception in September 2009, we have brought 1,059 animals into our organization, vetted them, fostered them, and adopted them out to loving forever homes. This truly filled our hearts with joy.

Due to recent statutory changes in New York State, however, we will no longer be a foster-based rescue.The new legislation applies to all rescues that foster animals and offer them for adoption in New York State. The statute is quite detailed and imposes many requirements for which compliance is not practical (or possible) for an all-volunteer rescue like ours that receives no public funding and has no staff.

While we are truly saddened (in fact, heartbroken) by this, we will continue to help in other ways - courtesy posting, sponsoring medical needs, sponsoring spay/neuter, etc. In short, we remain committed to helping animals in need and will do our best within the limits of the new legislation/regulation.

For those of you who have helped Safe at Last animals on their life's journey home, and for those of you who have adopted from us in the past, we heartily thank you. Each and every one of you has made a difference - THE difference - by saving a life. For all of you who have supported us throughout the years, we sincerely thank you as well, as your support made it possible for us to help these fur-kids in need. Please know that we will continue the work, albeit in different ways.

As we all move forward, let us aim to make this world a kinder place and continue to save shelter pets, one life at a time.
