Meet Fern, who came to us from our rescue friends in Bamberg, SC.  We believe that Fern is a border collie mix.  She’s about 2 ½ years old and about 45 lbs, and she is full of love!  Fern absolutely LOVES people, and we are seeking a great forever home for her where she will be included in family life.

Fern is house trained and crate trained, UTD on shots, spayed & heartworm negative.  When we took her to our vet after arrival, she did test positive for Lyme disease (although she shows no symptoms).  Fern is currently being treated with doxycycline for Lyme.

Regarding Fern's personality, she’s great in public with other dogs & has been to classes where she has met numerous other dogs just fine.  With that said, she is much more interested in making friends with people &, because she is very “toy driven,” we think she would do best as a solo dog where all the attention & toys could be hers.  Truly, what Fern seems to crave most is to be petted by her people and snuggle with them.  As for toys, she LOVES to play tennis ball with her people.

Fern is also a very fast learner – she already knows how to sit and lay down; and we feel that she would benefit from doing some classes with her new family to help her gain more confidence.   We also think she'd do fine with kitties, as she tested fine with a kitty in SC and she hasn't shown much interest in cats since her initial introduction to them in her current foster home.   

As far as grooming goes, Fern is pretty low maintenance.  She has been going to the creek with her foster mom and foster sister, and she plopped herself right into the water without a problem. She's enjoyed being brushed and lets her foster mom touch her feet.  So, she seems to be fine with being handled.
