They are about 13-14 weeks old. Best guess for breed is a mixture of Hound type dogs (Coonhound/Bloodhound/Beagle) and possibly some Labrador as well. They vary in size but overall we believe (THOUGH CANNOT GUARANTEE) that they will be medium to large in size when full grown (50-75lbs).
These puppies came from a VERY bad situation, after being abandoned next to a dumpster in Georgia, nearly starved to death. No puppy should have to go through that and as a result most of these guys needed varying degrees of rehabilitation both physically & mentally.
Physically they are all recovered. Behaviorally, these guys have had a rough start due to the terrible situation they came from. Some will likely need a bit more work than others. We will be adopting them out to confident, dog experienced homes who can be good leaders and commit to the behavioral training.
They are all cute as cake though, with those typical big floppy Hound ears. And at their core, they are just babies who just need the proper guidance to move past this terrible experience.
Mabie (may-bee) is the second smallest female. She is generally pretty outgoing & friendly. She can be a little fiesty with the other puppies, but again with the proper guidance she should be fine.
Most of these pups tend to be a little shy at first but after a few minutes of sitting with them and giving them a chance to see that you are an ok person they really do appreciate people.
They have been introduced to cats and med/large breed adult dogs; they are actually very respectful of the adult dogs in their foster home and exhibit appropriate behavior. A few of them display some desire to chase the free-range chickens, but again, with the proper behavioral intructions, this tendency is modifiable.
If you have the time, willingness and ability to commit to Mabie for life, please register with us on www.safeatlast.net. When you receive your password, please log back on to our website to complete the SAFE AT LAST online adoption application. Our review process is very straightforward but involves a phone interview, reference checks and a home assessment. An adoption fee of $425, and a refundable $35 neuter deposit (required by NYS law), also apply.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: WE CANNOT CONSIDER YOU FOR ADOPTION UNTIL WE HAVE YOUR SAFE AT LAST APPLICATION, AND YOU CANNOT MEET Mabie UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED TO ADOPT. So, please, if you are interested, submit the Safe at Last adoption application. And although we DO NOT operate on a first come first serve basis, delay in submitting your application will put you behind other suitable homes who have applied.
Additional individual personality questions can be directed to their foster mom at swiffer109@yahoo.com.
