(12/7/20)  CHILI HAS AN ADOPTION PENDING AND WILL BE GOING HOME LATER THIS WEEK!  YEAH, CHILI!!

Meet sweet Chili who just arrived today from NC thanks to the dedicated caretakers there, as well as the wonderful pilots from Pilots & Paws!!!

This is what Chili's NC foster mom had to say about her:

"Everyone who has met Chili has been charmed by her beautiful looks and sweet demeanor. She meets strangers like they are friends she meets every day for coffee. Chili definitely LOVES people.

She is like any hound with her nose always to the ground when she is not checking in on you, and she loves all things food. She does not counter-surf but counter peeks. And, with anything that she does incorrectly, she very quickly redirects and is very soft-hearted; so it does not take anything heavy-handed or loud. Easy correction and positive reinforcement work much better.  She is very smart and again food motivated.

Chili has endless energy and did amazing at day care and with my pack. She could play day and night; the tips of all 4 of her toes are white, and I think it is because she has worn the color off. But while she is a hound, she is not obsessed with her nose to the ground and loves to walk with you and did great on a leash.

Toys, yes, she is still a puppy and enjoys tossing them and making them squeak. And last night discovered one of our filled bones and also discovered tossing it in the air is not the same as a squeaky toy!! It does land a bit harder. And, while she was trying to figure out how to play with us, there was some mouthy behavior, typical of any pup  -- again, this is typical puppy behavior, not aggression.

We did have a few quiet moments where she snuggled with me on the couch, and she just kept staring up like it was a dream. Also, she knows her name, and she responds so quickly. She would coming running in and jump up on the couch and sit next to me like velcro.

She ventured in to her crate before I had it all set up last night, ate dinner in it and then put herself to bed in it at 8:30.  She also traveled in from 'Camp' to home last night without a peep.

Her house training needs some polishing. If you are watching closely for signals, she will go out. However, she takes a little while to find the perfect spot and can get distracted several times.  With direction and some patience, she does fine; and she responds so well to positive reinforcement.

It is fun to watch her go from sweet, delicate and elegant to agile, fun and goofy.  And she just loves people and enjoys all the affection; busy or not, she makes time for you. "

We are seeking a great family for Chili who will love her for life and embrace the wonderful young lady that she is.  We are looking for an active family who will be able to give Chili the exercise, mental stimulation and attention that she needs.  As stated, her new family will need to continue to work with her on her potty-training.  Due to her activity level, we would prefer a home with a fenced yard, but we will assess each application individually - the important thing is that her new family be active and wanting to include Chili in daily activities and lots of exercise.  We think Chili would do well with or without another dog in the household.  Again, the important thing is that her new family have the willingness and ability to give Chili the attention, love, stimulation & exercise that she needs.

To pursue Chili's adoption, please register on www.safeatlast.net.  (Click Register on the left hand side of our home page.)  When you receive your password, log back on to our website to complete the SAFE AT LAST adoption application. (Click Forms/Applications on the left hand side of our homepage).  Once we have your application, if we feel you are a potentially good match for Chili, we will email you to commence the review process.  Our process is straightforward but involves the phone interview, reference checks and a home assessment.  An adoption fee of $425 also applies.

You cannot meet Chili until you have been approved to adopt.  And we cannot consider you until you have submitted the SAFE AT LAST online adoption application.  Delays in submitting your application will put you at a disadvantage relative to others who have applied.

Finally, Chili is currently being fostered in Worcester NY (Otsego County).  Approved adopters are required to go to the foster home to complete the adoption.

Thank you for your interest in sweet Chili.
