Meet Yukon - who is a positively FABULOUS young adult!!

Here is what his first foster parents in North Carolina had to say about him:

“What a doll Yukon is!!  Starting with everything he does well.  Potty trained, crate trained and sleeps through the night, good with all others, not afraid of thunder or fireworks and such a sweet disposition!!

He just lights up when the other dogs show him any interest, and he loves to play, sleep and gently steal their treats.  Another dog in the home would be so beneficial for him. 

He is very unsure of some of the basics like playing with a toy. Please do not throw one at him as he thinks you are angry and will run and hide. 

Running in the yard is so awkward and adorable all at once. He is just learning how to let loose and race with the others and he almost looks like he is smiling. 

Snuggling on the couch is another favorite thing he has learned. And even more comical, he thought he needed to use 10 lb Daisy's step stool to get permission to "come aboard". Now he very gently finds a spot amongst the others and likes to be close; then he settles down and naps with the best of them. 

We do still feed him separate and when giving them cows ears or dental sticks. Not because he is aggressive (NOT at all) - but he likes to round up everybody's treats and does it ever so sweetly. He is great though at going to his crate to enjoy them too. 

We love him as a house guest and have not one issue with him. As a matter of fact, he gained entry to the upstairs for good behavior and napped with Walter on the couch in our spare room yesterday. That never happens until we know they do not chew, get into trouble out of sight and are potty trained. With our big house, there is enough downstairs to watch them in. 

Yukon is such a love!!”

Yukon is a super sweet young lad, about 8 months old.  He is a hound mix, and we anticipate (though cannot guarantee) that he will be medium in size when full-grown (40-50 lbs).  Right now (8/28), he is about 32 lbs.  We prefer a forever home with another nicely-tempered dog so that Yukon can have a buddy – no overbearing or dominant personality types, as Yukon will not stand up for himself if the other dog were overbearing.  Yukon is super, super sweet, affectionate, gets along with other dogs, loves to play…  He is in a foster home now with several other dogs, and he does just great.  He also did terrific going out on errands - and he was such a good boy for over 2 hours of errands, rides great in the car, always seems to be happy and easy-going -- and he was rewarded with a nice cup of ice cream.  Folks, Yukon is a truly speical, wonderful dog & will make a great addition to any loving, responsible home.

To be considered to adopt Yukon, please register on www.safeatlast.net.  (Click Register on the left-hand side of our home page.)  When you receive your password on your email account, log back on to complete the SAFE AT LAST online adoption application.  (Click Forms/Applications on the left-hand side of our home page and select Adoption Application.)  Once we have your completed SAFE AT LAST application, IF WE FEEL YOU ARE A POTENTIALLY GOOD MATCH FOR YUKON, WE WILL CONTACT YOU BY EMAIL TO SCHEDULE THE PHONE INTERVIEW TO COMMENCE THE REVIEW PROCESS -- SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM.  Our review process is very straightforward, but it does involve the phone interview, reference checks and a home assessment.  AN ADOPTION FEE OF $425 ALSO APPLIES.

If you do not submit the Safe at Last online adoption application, we cannot consider you.  Delay in submitting your application will put you at a disadvantage to others who have applied.  Also, you cannot meet Yukon until you have applied and been approved to adopt. 

Approved adopters are required to go to the foster home (in the Greenville NY area [Greene County]) to complete the adoption.  Covid-19 protocols must be observed, including mask.
