Meet Nana (aka Nellie) who arrived from our NC rescue partners 2/13, along with her 8 puppies (all of whom are situated with their families) -- now it's Nana's turn to find her wonderful home.

This is what Nana's NY foster mom has to say about her:

"Nana has been one of the sweetest hounds I have ever met! She very much just wants to be loved, which does mean she will jump, but I am trying my best to deter her from that. Nana seems to be very happy lounging on the couch; she also LOVES car rides - she jumps in and curls right up and sleeps. We are working on her leash skills (she is a hound so "nose to the ground" sometimes gets the best of her). We are also working on her crate training for a few hours a day. She sleeps on a dog bed on the floor next to my bed all night with no issues. She also seems to be completely house broken. Nana has been good with dogs & cats; so she would do fine in a home with other animals. She would also do fine as a solo pet, so long as she get lots of love from her people. She has not displayed any food aggression whatsoever, people or dog. I think she would do best in a fenced yard or would need to be on a lead, as I wouldn't trust her nose not to take her off somewhere."

Nana is a sweet 3yr old, spayed, 45-lb Hound mix who would love a family of her own. A family with or without other pets would be fine. A physically fenced yard is preferred (or commitment to keeping her leashed is a must). We are also seeking a home without very young children. As stated, Nana recently had 8 puppies, and she was not comfortable with children during her pregnancy and while nursing; however she has had some really nice, positive interactions with respectful, dog-savvy kids under her foster mom's supervision-so it may have just been the situation. At this time, respectful, dog-savvy kids, 8+ will be considered.

Nana absolutely LOVES people - so a mostly adult home where she will get plenty of loving would be the best placement for her. Also, Nana loves her couch time with her people, as she likes to snuggle. She also, however, is a young adult dog, and like any healthy young adult canine, likes to run and play as well. Finally, as is the case for any young adult dog, Nana will benefit from continued structure/routine, positive reinforcement for good behavior and correction for improper behavior. She is doing absolutely fabulously in her foster home and continues to blossom with the love, structure, care, guidance, and training that she is receiving there. Nana is truly a sweetheart - and we are looking for a fantastic home, deserving of her, who will meet her needs & love her. No doubt, this sweet girl will return your love a thousand-fold.

Once we have your application, if we feel you are a good match, we will contact you by email to commence the review process - so, please check your spam. Our process is very straightforward, but it does involve a phone interview, reference checks and home assessment. An adoption fee of $450 also applies.
