CHANCE is a courtesy posting for the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley and is not a Safe at Last dog (he is living with our mutual foster home :)  So, if you are interested, please be sure to direct your inquiries to Chance's foster mom Jill at swiffer109@yahoo.com.  Foster mom Jill is the only person who can answer your questions and/or consider you for adoption.  So, please email her at swiffer109@yahoo.com.  Many thanks for your interest.

MEET Chance (BIG SMILING boy in between his two chocolate foster siblings)!  Just look at that big smile and his bright eyes -- he is so wanting and deserving of a great family who will want a great family dog who will love them forever!!

Chance is about 3-4 years old, and from all appearances, he's simply a Pittie mix boy.  He currently weighs 65 lbs.  Chance is all white except for that one black patch on his neck.   And, his smile just lights up the world!!!

Chance is a local (Schoharie County) Dog Control Officer 'stray' intake.  An owner never came forward, which is both perplexing and frustrating, as Chance is one special, sweet, amazing dog!

Chance is a GREAT dog - in short, this guy is good with dog-savvy cats, good with other dogs, OK WITH CHICKENS!, great with people and kids, housebroken, and he definitely knows things-not only how to behave in a home, but also 'sit' 'down' and 'shake' with both paws, & "roll over".  He has definitely had training, and he shows it -- and he will so fit into a househould - meaning a home.... with his people AND other pets (where he will be part of family life).

Chance is currently being fostered with other dogs, both males and females, including guest dogs & others fosters... Chance gets along amicably with all.  Notwithstanding his great behavior with all, because he is an adult, for prospective adopters, we always suggest a meet & greet to assure a good match.  And, Chance's foster mom can make a pretty accurate judgment based on personalities whether any current canines/kitties would culminate in a nice fit for a household dog friend or friends (or kitty friends).

Re cats, Chance does well.  When he first came into foster care he seemed a bit suspicious/unsure of cats; we think he had not been used to living with them (or maybe just out of practice), but all is going well at his foster home.  We think that dog-savvy cats would be the most appropriate for him in his new home.  Specifically, he is now being fostered with 3 indoor *dog-savvy* cats, and with a little guidance from his foster mom, she is letting him know that cats are really just best to be avoided.  And, he's doing just fine with that.
-same with chickens, Chance has more than demonstrated the ability to be ok with the resident free-range chickens! (check out the video) - We would never recommend completely unsupervised chicken time but this guy is just adding to his resume!

As for people, Chance LOVES people of all sizes!  He is super super friendly and sweet.  Chance would actually be a great therapy dog candidate, following a class and certification with her new family.
This guy is ready for his real forever home and would be a really great fit for many households.  He is truly a wonderful ambassador for his breed.  Chance is a loving, sweet, well-adjusted boy -- and we are seeking a forever home for him where his individual personality/traits will be welcomed and cherished.  If you feel you can provide that for him, we would love to hear from you.

Chance's adoption fee is $150 - and this includes neuter, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dewormer (if needed), flea treatment (if needed), heartworm/lyme test, & microchip!

**If you are seriously interested, YOU NEED TO APPLY (instructions below).  Also, a follow-up email to Chance's foster mom, swiffer109@yahoo.com, is strongly recommended.

To fill out an application please register on www.safeatlast.net.  When you receive your password, log back on to complete the Safe at Last online adoption application.  IF WE FEEL YOU ARE A POTENTIALLY GOOD MATCH, WE WILL CONTACT YOU BY EMAIL - SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM.  Chance is being fostered in a private home - WITHOUT YOUR APPLICATION, WE CANNOT CONSIDER YOU, and you cannot meet Chance until you have applied and been approved.  Adopters are required to visit foster home to complete adoption (Warnerville, NY - Schoharie County).

Our review process is very straightforward - it involves an interview, reference checks and a home assessment.

(We will cannot respond to generic "check the box" "Is he available" petfinder inquiries.)
