Meet little Miss Mousey Mouse.

This little peanut is just a baby, and already it doesn't seem like she was in a very good situation.  She was found as a local stray, and no one ever called for her or even reported a puppy missing.  How does someone not wonder or care where their 12 week old puppy is?!  Anyway, at least she is safe now, not wandering the streets.  And we have promised this little bundle of cuteness that we will find her a wonderful forever home deserving of her...

As for some particulars, Mouse had a little bit of hair loss when found.  It seems that this was due to poor living conditions, as she's already growing back hair and her skin is in so much better shape in such a short time.

Miss Mouse is estimated to be about 16 weeks old (approx date of birth, 4/20/2023).  She appears to be a Pittie mix, maybe Boxer or another bully breed - we expect but cannot guarantee she will be a medium-sized adult dog.

Mouse is working on her crate training and housebreaking skills & doing well.  As with any puppy her age, she'll still need continued training in her new adoptive home.  And, as with all of our puppies, we recommend taking a basic group training class for exposure, a bonding experience with her new family, and of course continuing her path to becoming a lovely, trained, well-behaved & well-adjusted adult canine citizen.

In terms of personality, Mouse is a doll-baby.  She is very friendly, loves kids and people, loves to give kisses, and at least right now, doesn't have any mouthy behaviors.  She does sometimes startle at "scary" things - loud noises (like a metal dog dish being dropped or a lawn mower being started) and unfamilar things.  As a general matter, this is not unusual for a puppy; and, in Mouse's case, we think this is a result or her prior situation where she seems to have not gotten much (if any) support or nurturing from whomever had her before.  Whatever the reason, with continued positive exposure training and support from her human and canine friends, this little peanut will very likely wind up becoming much braver as she continues having positive experiences in her world which build her confidence.

Mouse is currently fostered with other dogs (some much larger AND some smaller than she), cats, and chickens (supevised of course) - she does well with all.  She is respectful of the adult dogs, and she is quite playful and unphased by her 6-month-old quite large male puppy housemate.  She does try to stand up for herself when he trys to take the bone she is chewing (which is a totally appropriate response) - and since that is something that she should not have to do, foster mom usually steps in and provides another bone to the other party.

Given her young age & background, we feel Mouse should be placed with a social, middle-of-the-road canine companion from whom she can learn and also, of course, have continued positive interactions.  She would also benefit from interactions with other younger dogs (whose temperament and behavior patterns are known commodities) so that that she can play and further socialize.  This could be accomplished in day care settings or by having play dates.  (We do not recommend dog parks.)

Mouse is an adorable sweet pup with so much love to give, and she is all ready for her forever home. If you have the time, willingness and ability to love and care for Mouse for her whole life, we would love to hear from you.

Mouse's adoption fee is $240, plus a $35 NYS required, refundable spay deposit - she will also be current on core vaccines-rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine-, dewormered, have current flea preventative, & is microchipped!

**If you are seriously interested, YOU NEED TO APPLY (instructions below).  Also, a follow-up email to Mouse's foster mom, swiffer109@yahoo.com, is strongly recommended.

To fill out an application please register on www.safeatlast.net.  When you receive your password, log back on to complete the Safe at Last online adoption application.  IF WE FEEL YOU ARE A POTENTIALLY GOOD MATCH, WE WILL CONTACT YOU BY EMAIL - SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM.  Mouse is being fostered in a private home - WITHOUT YOUR APPLICATION, WE CANNOT CONSIDER YOU, and you cannot meet Mouse until you have applied and been approved.  Adopters are required to visit the foster home to complete the adoption (Cobleskill, NY - Schoharie County).

Our review process is very straightforward - it involves an interview, reference checks and a home assessment.

(We will cannot respond to generic "check the box" "Is she available" petfinder inquiries.)

Thank you for choosing to rescue and for your interest in Mouse.
