Meet sweet Salem, another North Carolina scruffy (terrier mix).  This poor gal came from rough circumstances.  She is only about 3 years old (best assessment only, no guarantee), but it appears that Salem has known nothing other than being an uncared momma to litter after litter of pups.

That life is now behind her, however.  Life is changing for this sweetie – now, it’s all about her… and she is soaking up the love and care she so richly deserves.  She is learning to be part of a family and doing so very well.  At times, though, it can be a little scary – especially when there is a crowd.  In those circumstances, Salem just needs a minute to overcome feeling overwhelmed.  She is doing great and making strides every day.

Once she has settled into her environs, Salem enjoys the company of another fur sibling and looks forward to playing. If you get down to her level, she will move in for pets and loving and she becomes your friend.  If you want to really win her over, offer her a toy.  It's a small thing… but it brings her joy and security.  We are seeking a family for this sweet girl who will give her the love, care and time to show her she is a cherished family member.  Salem is sure to reward her new family a thousand-fold.

Salem is up-to-date on her core vaccines and is foster care in North Carolina. She is scheduled to be spayed within the next two weeks and will be making her way north to New York after her spay.

To fill out an application, first, please register on www.safeatlast.net.  When you receive your password (on your email account), log back on to complete the Safe at Last online adoption application.  IF WE FEEL YOU ARE A POTENTIALLY GOOD MATCH, WE WILL CONTACT YOU BY EMAIL - SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM.  All our rescues are fostered in private homes - WITHOUT YOUR APPLICATION, WE CANNOT CONSIDER YOU, and you cannot meet our rescue animals until you have applied and been approved.  Adopters are required to visit the foster home to complete the adoption (in the Schoharie County/Albany County area).

Our review process is very straightforward - it involves an interview, reference checks and a home assessment.  An adoption fee of $450 also applies.
